Catalina Urbina2024-08-23 We had the opportunity to work with Maddie when our toddlers pickiness around food became too much for us to handle. Maddie started at the beginning and evaluated his bite to make sure his picky habits weren't also associated with an inability to eat different foods. She found a few issues and gave us tools and exercises to strengthen the areas of weakness. She then worked on introducing new foods and teaching us how to do the same. Our son went from only eating 2 brand specific snacks to eating foods and textures we would have never imagined. Chelsea Mitchell2024-03-26 Madi has been an absolute angel in my journey of trying to find help for my son. He has struggled with his speech for almost 2 years now. I have gone through 4 different speech therapists and none have compared to Madi. She customizes everything to him. The amount of detail and effort she has put into each session is amazing. He is a very active little guy and she has made sure to add movement to the speech lessons which has helped him so much in learning. He has started to prefer to learn on the floor and she is right there with him doing whatever is most comfortable for him. I really cannot explain how amazing this is to find in a speech therapist. She is the perfect amount of flexible with him while still getting him to listen to her directions. His speech has skyrocketed since coming to her which makes us all so happy. If you are lost at all on where to look for a therapist look no further. Madi is your girl! ☺️ you will not be disappointed.💗 k carter2024-01-18 I spoke with Madison during an incredibly difficult time for our family with a child who suddenly became afraid to choke and stopped eating. Madison reached out promptly during a time when I couldn’t get any professionals on the phone. There are alarmingly few feeding therapy resources and even less when you need something urgently. Madison walked me through so many helpful ideas on how to deal with it. She followed up with concern for our child and made herself available over the weekend. She even went above and beyond to research and help us find play therapy for anxiety in small children. I get emotional to remember how grateful I am for her being there and being a reliable resource during one of the worst times of our life. Thanks again, Madison. Amanda Doringcott2024-01-16 I can't speak highly enough about our experience with Madison. From the very beginning, I was impressed with the setup of the sessions. The ability to watch the sessions from outside on the tablet has been incredibly insightful and adds an extra layer of transparency. Madison is not only highly trained and educated but also has an exceptional way of connecting with children. My 4-year-old and 2-year-old absolutely love their sessions with her. It's truly remarkable how well they listen and respond during the sessions, showcasing her expertise and engaging approach. One of the standout aspects for us is the personalized resources and homework that gets sent home. The materials are not only tailored to the needs of my kids but are also incredibly easy for both the children and me as a parent to follow. This has been instrumental in our success outside of the sessions, and I appreciate the thoughtfulness behind these resources. In addition to the excellent services provided, the pricing is reasonable, making quality speech therapy accessible. The office environment is welcoming and conducive to a positive learning experience. Overall, SmallTalk Speech Therapy has exceeded our expectations in every aspect. We feel fortunate to have found someone so dedicated, skilled, and genuinely passionate about helping children succeed in their communication skills. I wholeheartedly recommend Madison to any parent seeking top-notch speech therapy for their kids.
FAQ
Speech-Language Pathology (SLP), also known as speech therapy, is a specialized field that focuses on diagnosing, assessing, and treating communication and swallowing disorders. Speech-language pathologists (SLPs), commonly referred to as speech therapists, work with individuals of all ages who experience difficulties in various aspects of communication, including speech production, language comprehension, expressive language, fluency, voice, and social communication. Additionally, SLPs also address swallowing and feeding disorders in both children and adults.
Articulation Disorders: Difficulty pronouncing speech sounds correctly, leading to speech sound distortions or substitutions.
Phonological Disorders: Challenges in understanding and using the rules that govern speech sound patterns in a language.
Apraxia of Speech: A motor speech disorder that impairs the ability to plan and coordinate the precise movements necessary for speech.
Language Disorders: SLPs treat individuals with challenges in understanding and using language, including vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension difficulties.
Fluency Disorders: Disruptions in the flow of speech, including stuttering and cluttering.
Developmental Delays: Delays in reaching communication milestones appropriate for a person’s age, affecting speech, language, or both.
Depending on the recommendations from the therapist, therapy sessions are either 30 minutes or an hour, and can occur once or twice a week.
